    to be
Light in the Darkness

During this Lenten season, our faith and conscience calls us to greater contemplation and to reflect upon our lives and actions as individuals, as communities, and as a world.  We recognize the need to transform the injustice, unbridled destruction and deep pain that we live amongst on this planet.  During these next 40 days of the Lenten season we at 8th Day invite you to reflect on these questions;

What am I doing to create a more just world?

                         How am I living out my call to bring about peace?

How can I be a better member of the community?

                                                 How can we make light in the darkness?

Finding answers to these questions may never happen in our life time but as Oscar Romero said, “We plant the seeds that one day will grow. We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise.”

Reflection with out action will not bring us closer peace or bring light in the darkness.  The Lenten season and the coming of springtime is a natural time that brings us literally out of the darkness (in the Northern Hemisphere) and into the light, breaking open, with new growth and opportunity.

One of the strengths of 8th Day Center for Justice is that we ask each other these questions everyday. In our conference room where we have our weekly staff meetings we have a banner that reminding us,

“How will our efforts in this room today, affect the people who are poor, those who are marginalized and the whole of the cosmos?”

At 8th Day work actively to seek the answers and subsequently take action toward solutions.  We work toward trying to create a more just world in our daily interactions with each other as staff, in our work, within coalitions and in broader community.   We need your support to continue to ask the hard questions, to continue to seek out truth and bring light to the darkness.

By supporting 8th Day Center for Justice, you can help us make concrete steps to bring light in the darkness because reflection without action will not bring us closer peace or bring light in the darkness.

We invite you to read on and learn about two of our staff at 8th Day Center for Justice and their reflections on their personal transformation process and how they are working to bring light in the darkness.  We invite you to give your support and join us in our work, to pray for peace and justice for all and take action in your life!

Please consider a donation today!  We need your support to continue the work for Justice and Peace.
